We responded to a call regarding a dog who had been hit by a car in a neighboring town and found Una. This young Golden Retriever mix had been carelessly abandoned by her family and was running across a busy intersection when she nearly lost her life. Una required emergency surgery to mend her broken leg and remove an eye which had been torn from its socket during the accident. Her constant smile and unbreakable spirit helped her get through a very tough time in her life. It also helped her find a new home.

Delilah, a two-month old Torbie kitten, was rescued from the streets and arrived at our shelter with a rather curious wound on her head. A veterinary exam revealed that her injury may be a result of animal cruelty. With that in mind, it was no wonder why Delilah was so frightened of people. After a course of antibiotics and daily wound care, Delilah spent some time in a foster home where she learned that people can be her friends. She was later adopted, which was no surprise! Who could resist that lovely mug?!

We rescued Holly from an overcrowded shelter in NYC. She was missing most of her fur and her skin was covered in scabs. Upon arriving at our shelter, she was diagnosed with a severe case of mange, a skin disease caused by parasitic mites. After several weeks of treatment, this sweet Pit Bull puppy’s itchy skin began to heal, allowing her beautiful tan and white coat to grow. This once sad looking pup was now bright and cheerful, and has many happy days ahead of her in her new home.

Morrice was put out on the streets when is family moved away.
Unfortunately, several weeks had passed before a concerned neighbor called to alert us of the situation. When Morrice arrived at our shelter, we feared that help had come too late. In addition to being extremely emaciated, an attack by another animal had left him with multiple wounds and fractures. He was immediately brought to a local animal hospital where he would remain for some time receiving the intensive care he needed in order to survive. He would soon make a full recovery, but his front leg was amputated due to the severity of the fracture. Back at our shelter, Morrice quickly adjusted to his new three-legged lifestyle and charmed everyone he met with his kind and loving disposition. Needless to say, our feline Prince Charming eventually found a new home,
and the happy ending he so deserved.

What a sad, sickly pup Louie was when he was dropped off at out shelter by his family who couldn’t afford to provide him with the immediate medical care he needed. Louie, a Chow/Retriever mix puppy, had Parvo which, if left untreated, can lead to sudden death. For several weeks, Louie received intensive care at our shelter. He made a full recovery and was adopted to a family who recently told us that he is the light of their lives!

On Valentine’s Day, we received a call regarding a sick cat who was lying in the middle of
an icy parking lot. When we arrived at the location, we found this cat to be so emaciated, he was unable to stand. He was brought to the safety of our shelter where he received the care he had been without for far too long. How he lost his home remained a mystery to us, but one thing we were quite certain of was that he would not have survived another frigid night alone on the streets. Appropriately named “Valentino”, this young Maine Coon mix purred his way right into our hearts. As Valentino’s health improved, it seemed he grew larger with each day that passed. This handsome cat now has a family to call his own. They recently told us how happy they are to have him in their lives.
